St. Albert’s has become a spiritual home for me and a warm setting in which to worship. The congregation is welcoming when you are new to the area. When I determined it was St. Albert’s that I wanted to regularly attend, there were card table chairs set up in the back of the church because of Covid – it permitted people to spread out a bit during Mass. I sat in one of those chairs and observed as members fondly greeted one another, sang collectively, and heartily responded to the prayers during the Mass. Some even said hello to me…the unknown in the back of church. This was it…this was to be my charming parish home.
St. Albert’s has many fun events that happen during the year, and each event has the Heart of Jesus at the core of it. These events have an open door to everyone (Catholic and non-Catholic alike) who want to experience the fun – an incredibly welcoming place to join the activities.
I appreciate the volunteering opportunities at fun events like the Parish Festival…Friendly City Days…Totus Tuus to name a few; and I also appreciate being able to support parishioners through their personal challenges like serving at funeral lunches. There are various committees to join – there is something for everyone at St. Albert’s. It is terrific to participate in a church that is small where you get to know the congregation quickly if you put yourself out there just a little. Jesus was a volunteer his entire life...what an example he was! It is a pleasure to get a phone call to be asked to do something unexpectedly for the church. If you can’t do it, it’s okay. But if you can do it, and you do it, you will be much richer in spirit for having said ‘yes.’
I find St. Albert’s to be a comfort...the humility, the compassion, the giving nature, and the faithfulness of the church family. After my husband passed away, I moved to this area to be closer to my son and his large family. I like St. Albert’s size and deep values. Once I felt comfortable in my new spiritual home at St. Albert’s, I asked Fr. Joe to come and bless my newly built home. He did that and I appreciated that, but what I valued most was that Fr. Joe made the time that day to walk down to an elderly neighbor’s home to bless her home. Little, frail Jean was SO happy to have her home blessed. She has since passed away, but I take delight in remembering how joyful Jean was that her home was dedicated to God while being shielded from evil.
